Jersey girls rule!
Unlike my roommate, Lily, I grew up around other cows. As a calf, I was part of the 4H program. After the 4H program, I was sold to be bred. When I was unable to become pregnant, my owners wanted to make sure that I went to a nice home. Heritage Haven seemed like the perfect fit!
When I arrived at Heritage Haven, I wasted no time in gently explaining to Lily that even though I’m a Jersey cow, and therefore much smaller than she is, I was in charge. Luckily, since Lily had not been around other cows in a long time, she was happy to let me lead the way in our little herd.
Now, Lily and I work together to learn new skills, like walking calmly on a lead rope so that we can safely be handled. This helps us a lot in routine care and prepares us in case we ever need to be moved in an emergency. When we aren’t practicing our skills, you can find us sharing a meal or laying in the sunshine chewing our cuds.
